Part 85

Shadow opened his eyes. He didn’t know how he knew these things, but he just did. Amy was better off with Manic and he didn’t belong in Knothole. He got up and made his way back to the secret village. Tabby was waiting for him when he got back.

“Dude! Where did you go?!” the bobcat exclaimed.

“I had to get something…” Shadow told him.

“What’s that?”

“It’s nothing…” Tabby eyed him suspiciously.

“You ok? You seem down.”

“I- I’m fine. I just…” Shadow looked at Tabby, “can I tell you something and trust you to tell no one?”

“… I decided to leave Knothole.”

“You’re leaving Knothole?! What about the others? What about Amy?! Don’t you love her?”

“I don’t know…” Shadow sighed, “even if I do she’s better off with Manic.”

“What makes you say that?” inquired Tabby.

“You know me. I don’t like being around people. I’m sorta rivals with Sonic. I can’t stay here.”

“Where are you going?”

“Not exactly sure…” Shadow frowned.

“When do you leave?”

“That depends on when that second Christmas party is planned. I figured I’d stay for that.”

“Give a parting gift to Amy…”

“Oh…” The two were silent for a time, then Tabby got an idea. He hesitantly suggested it to Shadow.

“… you could come to Nimbo.”

“You could come to Nimbo. It would be cool!” the cat grinned.

“Hmm…” Shadow thought about this. He shook his head. “Maybe someday, but I think I want to retreat to the mountains and you told us that there really weren’t any in Nimbo.”

“Oh… Well, that’s true there aren’t.”

“Eventually though, I might visit your world. For now, I want to live alone.” They were quiet a moment.

“I’m hungry.” Tabby finally said.

“You’re always hungry.” Shadow accused.

“Hey, I can’t help it! Only a few months ago did I start getting enough food.”

“Come on Skinny, let’s go find something in the kitchen.” They got some chips, sandwiches, and a bag of marshmallows then went back in the living room.

“Wanna watch a movie?” Tabby asked.

“Sure,” Shadow replied, “which one? There are like fifty here.”

“I don’t know? Let’s see… there’s Lord of the Rings.”

“No. I just saw that.”

“Ok. Star wars… Harry Potter… The Hobbit… Percy Jackson-“

“No!” Shadow exclaimed, “Those are not as good as the books!”

“Ok, no Percy Jackson.” Tabby grinned, “Wait. Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie,1999? Sonic has his own movie?!”
